Fragility in architecture remains, even today, a “contrary” theme for those who associate design solely with stability. However, employing it as a lens, as proposed in Valerio Paolo Mosco’s book, allows fragility to present us with a “parallel” history of architecture. This perspective updates established positions and situates a secondary origin in time, beyond that of the hut—or, more broadly, beyond the Western tradition. Aerostatic balloons, pylons, and frames describe a framework in which the traditional notion of stability assumes a new posture, and where the concept of “life,” partially neglected in our discipline, is restored to the domain of architecture.*

Abstract
Fragility in architecture remains, even today, a “contrary” theme for those who associate design solely with stability. However, employing it as a lens, as proposed in Valerio Paolo Mosco’s book, allows fragility to present us with a “parallel” history of architecture. This perspective updates established positions and situates a secondary origin in time, beyond that of the hut—or, more broadly, beyond the Western tradition. Aerostatic balloons, pylons, and frames describe a framework in which the traditional notion of stability assumes a new posture, and where the concept of “life,” partially neglected in our discipline, is restored to the domain of architecture.*| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
